Course Purpose: The goal of this course is to extend students’ content knowledge in mathematics, as well as to promote independent and collaborative thinking /problem solving, thus, preparing students for the rigors of higher education and the workforce beyond.

7th grade Common Core Math Standards: Students will become knowledgeable of the 7th grade California Common Core Math standards which include the domains of: Ratios and Proportional Relationships, The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

Common Core Math Practices: The Common Core Math Practices are 1) make sense of  problems and persevere in solving them 2) reason abstractly and quantitatively 3) construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others 4) model with mathematics 5) use appropriate tools strategically 6) attend to precision 7) look for and make use of structure and 8) look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Attendance/Tardies: Students who are absent or tardy are responsible for checking the course web page to see what was missed and missed assignments will need to be made up as soon as possible. Students need to make arrangements with Ms. Latuszek to make up missed tests/quizzes either during advisory, at lunch or after school.

Scholastic Grading Scale: 100-90=A (Excellent), 89-80=B (Good), 79-70=C (Satisfactory), 69-60=D (Needs Improvement), 59 and lower =F (Unsatisfactory)

Students and parents can check grades on PowerSchool (linked here or found on the Lewis website.)

Assignments/Homework (30% of the overall grade): Homework will be most days. The purpose of homework is to practice the skills that we are learning in class and as such are an integral part of the student learning process. It is very important that students view homework not as something they have to do, but something that they get to do to help them deepen their understanding of the mathematical content being explored, thereby, providing a strong foundation for the future math concepts to be learned in high school and beyond.

Students are expected to complete the assignments they are given thoroughly and conscientiously with an intention to learn the material. Late work is discouraged but will be accepted without penalty up until the last day of the semester. Extra Credit assignments will not be offered. I encourage students to reach out to me for help with problems that they are struggling with. I am available after school by appointment and at any time via email. I check email regularly throughout the day and can send video tutorials to help struggling students at any time.

Assessments/Quizzes (70% of the overall grade): Each unit will conclude with a unit test, and we will have quizzes midway through the unit to check in on our learning. Practice Quizzes and Tests will be provided for each unit prior to the actual unit quiz or test. An answer KEY and video tutorials will also be provided for each practice assessment, these can be found on my website under the daily assignments tab. Tests can be retaken to demonstrate increased mastery of a concept, quizzes can not be retaken but the quiz score will be replaced by the unit test score if the test score was higher. In order to retake a unit test, the student will need to make corrections to their original test and then make arrangements to come in at lunch or afterschool to retake the test.

Citizenship Grading: Please see the citizenship rubric in the school planner (page 11). E=Exceeds Expectations, M=Meets Expectations, I=Inconsistent, U=Unsatisfactory

Materials: Students should bring their school provided materials every day (i.e.- Charged laptop computer, Amplify Math workbook, planner.)
