Recent Art Projects at Sea Road School:
3rd Grade: Mola Collages
3rd Grade Students at Sea Road School are currently working on a collage project that has been inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month. Molas are a traditional form of Art from Panama. Students looked at examples of Mola designs and then cut out an animal shape of their choice to be the beginning of their project. Next, students glued their animals onto a large sheet of background paper and added cut pieces of paper around their animals to form their finished design. These projects are colorful and as soon as all students are done they will line the walls of our 3rd grade hallway!
4th Grade: Scratch Art
In October Fourth Grade Students at Sea Road School learned about Hispanic Heritage Month in Art Class. We discussed symbols that students could use in their designs including: butterflies, colorful flowers, hummingbirds, and sugar skulls. Students started their Scratch Artworks by outlining or drawing a symbol with pencil. Next, students colored their artwork using crayons. Finally, students learned how to add texture over their crayon colors by using oil pastels in areas of their project and scratching into it. These projects are currently hanging in the downstairs hallway near the 4th grade stairway of our school.
5th Grade: Yarn Painting
This Fall 5th Grade Students at Sea Road School have worked very hard on Yarn Paintings. These Yarn Painting were part of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. Yarn Paintings are a traditional craft that originate from Central Mexico. 5th Grade students looked at many examples and then came up with an idea for their own yarn painting that used simplified shapes. Our Yarn Paintings were made using cut yarn pieces and glue. Some students used oil pastel or paint markers to finish adding color around their Yarn Paintings. Finished Yarn Paintings will be on display in the main hallway of our school.
