Fall 2025 ART UPDATE!
Pixelated Personalities & Self-Portrait Exploration
PIXEL ART
To start this school year, students in every grade learned about the French street artist Invader, whose pixelated mosaic art can be found hidden in cities around the world.
Students were challenged to design their own signature image just like Invader does. Working with only 1x1 inch pixel paper squares, students built their collages.
Students had fun learning about Invader and exploring the interactive map on his website to see where his art is around the world. Check it out! --> https://www.space-invaders.com/home/
K and 1st SELF-PORTRAITS
K and 1st grade students, following their pixel art projects, created abstract self-portraits inspired by the CUBIST work of Pablo Picasso as well as his famous striped outfits. The final self-portraits were constructed out of recycled cardboard, chalk and oil pastels, paper and sharpies.
Students enjoyed reading the picture book, Picasso's Trousers which reviewed what they learned about cubism and introduced them to Picasso's famous striped wardrobe.
We are off to a great start to the 2024-2025 School Year.🎉
We began the year working on Self-Portraits, gaining inspiration from the multitude of amazing Hispanic Artists who are known for their own self-portraits. K/1 Students studied the abstract style of Pablo Picasso. 2/3 Students learned about the expressionistic style of Frida Kahlo. And 4/5 Students focused on the Surrealistic work of Salvador Dali.
Continuing our celebration of Hispanic Art and Artists, we have moved into craft-making from Hispanic cultures. Maracas, Guatemalan Worry Dolls, Huichol ojo de dios, and Baskets are taking shape beautifully. Come see our work at our Pop-Up Art Market on October 18!
Thank you for supporting our young Artists as they explore inner and outer worlds through Art!
