Meet Mrs. Hughes

Hello everyone! My name is Kelly Hughes and I am a proud 2nd grade teacher at Goldwood Primary School! I am so thankful to be a part of this dedicated and wonderful district with supportive colleagues and families. This will be my 15th year in education and my thirteenth year teaching 2nd grade in Rocky River! I live in Avon Lake with my husband and my two boys, Connor and Carson (the kids hear lots of funny stories about them throughout the year 😂)

My Education

I grew up in Solon then went on to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Ohio University...GO BOBCATS! I stayed another year to complete a fellowship, where I taught 3rd grade part-time while obtaining my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Intervention. Ohio University holds a very special place in my heart!

Interests/Hobbies

I love to be outside! Whether it’s hiking, skiing, swimming, or biking...I just enjoy being in the great outdoors. I also love reading, practicing yoga, and attending Cleveland sporting events--especially our Browns! Family means a lot to me. ♥️

My “why” for being a teacher

I’ve wanted to be a teacher since the first grade and I attribute that to the many inspiring and encouraging teachers who taught me to love learning. I also have an extended family that’s full of teachers (not to mention my sister, and both of my sister-in-laws are in education). I loved playing "school" with all the materials and books they passed along to me! In my opinion, the best feeling as a teacher is witnessing a student have their “a-ha moment”! I can't wait to see how many "a-ha moments" this next group of students will have. I'm so thankful that I get to go to a job that I love each and every day. :)
