Reading: Students are encouraged to read between 15-20 minutes each night. While I will not require or collect any tangible evidence of nightly reading, some students benefit from the routine of writing their book titles at the box at the bottom of the planner for each day. Feel free to do what works for YOUR family! We want reading to be a positive and fun experience for children! Reading includes recipes, graphic novels, magazines, chapter books, picture books, etc. Please let me know how I can best support you and your child with this. To further reading fluency, we will practice reading a weekly poem. On Thursdays, students will bring the poem home to read to three “lucky listeners” (who will sign their poem).
Math: Our math series at Goldwood is called Eureka Math Squared. There will be an "Apply" homework book sent home. Each lesson has a coordinated homework page that can be done at home. Each new module will come with a new "Apply" book that will be sent home.
Fundations: Fundations study packets will come home on the Monday of Fundations tests, and should be completed by the Friday of that week (same day as the test). I recommend having your child work on just a page per night, as the packet is not very long. I do not expect students to turn the packet in, it's more of a self-guided study practice! **Parents: I e-mail out the answer key on Wednesdays for you and your child to check the work and provide guidance, but please let me know if you have any other questions!
Science/Social Studies/Health: Homework for these subjects mainly consists of studying for upcoming tests. Occasionally, however, your child may have projects for these classes as well.
PLEASE MAKE IT A NIGHTLY/MORNING ROUTINE TO CHECK YOUR CHILD’S PLANNER AND SIGN-OFF (initials are fine) ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU HAVE SEEN THE HOMEWORK FOR THE DAY AND OTHER TEACHER NOTES.
Missing/Late Homework Assignments: Every morning I walk around the classroom to check parent signatures in planners, collect homework, write a note to parents, and collect any parent notes. If your child does not bring an assignment to school on time, I will circle it in his/her planner as a reminder to bring it back the next day. Remembering to complete homework and return it to school fosters responsibility and independence, which we know are critical skills.
