Panic. I woke up in a panic after being chased by Tracker Jackers all night long. These modified beasts described in this novel are terrifying to me. The idea of messing with nature--a simple wasp--something I am already deathly afraid of--and making it even more horrifying?? Well, that just freaks me out. You thought a sting was bad? That's just the beginning with a Tracker Jacker. Hallucinations. Loss of consciousness. Possible death. All rendered by a tiny creature that could fit on the end of your thumb. How can something so tiny be so deadly?
And while I'm at it, how can humans be so boldly, disgustingly inhumane? I'm not surprised that people use people for their own entertainment, but to watch families being ripped apart, children being killed for sport, and humans forced into a deadly situation for no reason other than entertainment is disgusting. But it's not so far off that this seems like a fairy tale, is it? In history we had the Holocaust when one group of people tried to annihilate another group of people entirely. Today we see that some people believe that their lives are worth more than other people's lives every day. The death of an immigrant is not seen as tragic as the death of an American citizen. This book makes you think...it's not so "fictiony" as I thought.
