Year 9

YEAR 9 DRAMA COURSE OUTLINE

Welcome to a challenging and exciting year in Rosehill College Drama. You are expected to work hard, to be committed to class work, whilst having fun!Below is an outline of what we will be doing in class, along with what you will be assessed on so that you can focus your learning for success.

UNIT ONE: Icebreakers & Theatresports Duration: 6 Weeks

You will familiarise yourself with other class members, partake in trust exercises, team building activities and generally get used to the way a drama class is run. You will learn basic performance skills by playing a series of theatresports games designed to help you create characters, think quickly, initiate and advance ideas and accept other peoples’ ideas.

Formative Assessment: Two theatresports games

Summative Assessment: Drama Doc entries

Summative Assessment: One theatresports game


UNIT TWO: Voice, Character, Elements and Conventions Duration: 5 Weeks

You will learn how to speak clearly and to project your voice on stage. You will find out how the voice works, and how to control it whist experimenting as different characters. You will explore a range of Drama elements and conventions and perform a scripted scene with a partner.

Formative Assessment: Characterisation and voice technique exercises

Summative Assessment: Script & Character Performance (Pairs)

UNIT THREE: Myths and Legends Duration: 10/9 Weeks


You will be taught the fundamental elements and conventions of Drama.

You will research a Myth or Legend and take part in acting a chosen story as part of a presentation to an invited audience. You will learn the fundamental aspects of being involved in producing a play, including costume, props and performance techniques

Formative Assessment: Individual poster design of devised play.

Summative Assessment: Performance of devised “Myth or Legend performance

Summative Assessment: Drama Doc.

Summative Assessment: Exam – You will sit a written exam based on the knowledge you have gained throughout drama this year.



UNIT FOUR: Drama Docs. Duration: Ongoing


Throughout the course you will complete and Drama Doc and submit this on your year 9 Google Classroom page.. Entries will include reflections on class-work drama activities, researching theatre forms and sharing your experiences of theatre seen outside the classroom.

Summative Assessment: Drama Docs.

Drama Class Notes - On-going: You will be given an ‘assignment’ through the Year 9 Drama Google Classroom page. This ‘assignment’ document will be where you write all in class notes for the year. You will not ‘turn’ this assignment in until your teacher requests it.
