*Behind Net/Tee Drill

(if needed – see notes)

Goal:

  • Learn to not cast the bat backwards at the swing (position 1 & 2)

Setup:

  • Place your back foot approximately 1’ in front of a net/wall (the wall will be behind you)

  • Put the Tee in line with your front foot (at contact)

Process:

  • Hit the ball

Checkpoints:

  • The bat should not make contact with the net/wall

  • The ball should be hit solid and straight

Notes/Thoughts:

This drill is accurate to a proper bath path and will help hitters that throw their bat backwards before they swing to not do so. Ideally, the bat stays close to the shoulder and whips through the ball adding its angular velocity to the linear of the velocity of the hands; roughly 30MPH (bat) + 20MPH (hands) = 50MPH velocity at contact. If the bat is thrown back (cast) at the start, you have much less angular rotation to work with and, therefore, less angular velocity.
