➠Because the bands involve much individual learning but are essentially large group projects, attendance at performances is mandatory. Except in the case of death or serious illness the parent/guardian must give written notice that a student will be absent THREE weeks in advance of a required performance.
A specific reason must be given. (The director reserves the right to deny the request.) This will allow some time to adjust seating if necessary and make up for the different sounds. Responsibility needs to be learned for oneself as well as the group. The three weeks is the same for everyone, regardless of whether they are from a large or small section. A person excused from a performance will also be assigned an appropriate written report to compensate for the rehearsals not participated in and the missed performance.
➠If appropriate notice is not given (or the request is denied) the student will be expelled from the group for the rest of the quarter and receive an "F" for the quarter. He/she may rejoin on probation the next quarter. If a person gives NO notice, forgets, or uses work as an excuse, that person may be expelled for the semester and receive an "F" for the quarter and semester.
➠School policy states that students must be in attendance all 8 periods of the day to participate in any rehearsals or performances outside of the normal school hours. (Doctor and other appointments are exceptions to this.)
➠The No Pass/No Play rule also affects fine arts participants. Students must pass all of their classes.
