Course Description:
Full year 2024-2025 1 High School credit
Spanish 8 (Spanish I) is a High School credit course. Upon completion, students will earn the one World Language credit needed in order to fulfill the High School graduation requirements. Successful completion of this course will allow students to continue their Spanish studies at the next level (Spanish II) in 9th grade. This course will introduce students to the basics of language and its culture. Students will focus on enriching their vocabulary and understanding the mechanics of the language. Students will demonstrate their skills in each of the four modes of language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Activities in each of these skills will be practiced individually, with the teacher and with peers. Some of the thematic units of this year will include greetings and introductions, descriptions of themselves and others, school, family, and food. The students will expand their understanding of the basic aspects of the structure of the language through communicative activities, observations, and analysis. In addition, through the study of the attitudes, values and beliefs that frame the cultural practices or behaviors of the Spanish-speaking world, students will gain a deeper understanding of why they think, live, and behave as they do. Videos and computer software to accompany the course.
