Learning a new language can be a scary endeavor but it can also be exciting and open the door to many opportunities. The following are some guidelines for this introductory class:
Course goals:
This course is designed to expose students to the Spanish sound system, to provide practice in comprehension, speaking, reading and writing Spanish, and introduces students to various customs of daily Spanish life. Course goals will be accomplished through readings, vocabulary drills, grammar explanations and exercises, conversation, games and role-playing activities and projects.
Mechanics and grammar: Vocabulary includes but not limited to alphabet, greetings, numbers, dates, weather and seasons, clothing, colors, classroom items, likes and dislikes. Grammar points covered are definite and indefinite articles, nouns, adjectives, some verb infinitives, basic idioms, declarative, interrogative, and negative sentence structure.
Enduring understandings: Effective communication in world languages requires knowledge of specific vocabulary, syntax and grammar. Effective communications in world languages is aided by knowledge of, and respect for other cultural practices.
