Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

Definition

In Rutherford County Schools, we are building a three tier system of support for all students. We work to integrate the following: Responsiveness to Instruction (RtI) and Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS).

MTSS provides consistent methods to identify students who struggle, target tiered instruction and intervention supports, and progress monitoring. It also provides a consistent methodology for evaluating the effectiveness and success of that system of supports.

RTI

North Carolina Responsiveness to Instruction (NCRtI) is a multi-tiered framework which promotes school improvement through engaging, high quality instruction. NCRtI employs a team approach to guide educational practices, using a problem-solving model based on data, to address student needs and maximize growth for all.

PBIS

North Carolina Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (NCPBIS) is a framework comprised of intervention practices and organizational systems needed for establishing individual behavior supports needed to achieve academic and social success for all students.
