All RCS Middle School students who wish to compete for a spot on the RCS PSIA Speech Team should register at the applicable link(s) below by December 6, 2024.
6th Grade: Sign up for Oral Interpretation (Poetry) Qualifier (3 spots available)
Poetry Interpretation Qualifier will be: January 10, 2025 at 3:30 PM in H205 (Mrs. Strange’s room)
Poetry Interpretation is “read” from a binder. You will select between five readings: The Giving Tree, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, “The State of the World," "Politically Correct Bedtime Stories - Little Red Riding Hood," and "The Scarlet Ibis." Links to the five selections are below on this page. You will be supplied with a competition binder at the Qualifier with the speech piece inside. You are responsible to write your own 2-3 sentence introduction which should include the title and author (memorized and recited before the reading).
If you would like to practice with a binder prior to the Qualifier, you may come check one out from Mrs. Strange and she will print the cut piece for you to put in the binder.
Please NOTE: The Qualifier piece will NOT be the piece you bring to competition, it is solely to secure a spot on the team. Once the team has been selected, competitors will be sent Poetry options to choose from for competition.
