RCS Elementary Speech Meets

General Information and Selection Sign-Up

All RCS Elementary Students (Grades 1-5) will participate in the RCS Elementary Speech Meets on January 10, 2025 (for grades 4-5) and January 17, 2025 (for grades 1-3). There will be an awards ceremony following each meet, and medals will be awarded to the winners in each category, by grade.

Here is an outline of the steps and things to remember:

A. Selecting Your Piece

Your child should select one speech piece to present at the RCS Speech Meet.
Browse the available categories and speech selections by grade level at the links below. Your selection must come from the published handbooks unless approved by Mrs. Strange.
Read "How do I select the right piece for my child?" HERE for helpful hints on picking a piece.
You must register your selection at the appropriate link below by December 6, 2024. If you do not register a selection for your student, your child will be assigned one of the RCS "Standard Selections" listed HERE.

B. Preparing Your Piece

All RCS Speech pieces must be MEMORIZED.
Print the page of your selection in order for your child to practice at home. (Your child may not use the page on the day of the speech meet - only to practice at home.)
If you select a Fable, you MUST write and insert a moral application, if one does not exist.
For Bible Memorization, you must add a personal application (what the verse means to you) in your own words (1-2 sentences).
Please do not forget to include the title and author for Poetry and Fable.
Bible version may ONLY be KJV, NKJV, NASB, ESV or NIV. You must include the name of your version when you state the reference.
Please include the title and applicable verse for Dramatic Bible Prose.

Hand motions (gestures) are not required nor penalized but should be appropriate for the piece and not distract.

Bible Memorization All Other Events

NOTE: Forgetting to include the specific elements mentioned above (e.g. title, author, moral application, personal application, Bible version, etc.) will result in automatic deductions on the ballots.

C. Other Information

Don't forget to register your selection by December 6, 2024 and to prepare your child's piece by January 10, 2025 (for grades 4-5) or January 17, 2025 (for grades 1-3)!
