Welcome to our last unit! We will explore the considerations of bioethics and current issues in society. We will be using multiple resources including "Exploring Bioethics" from the National Institute of Health (NIH), as well as other resources we have utilized throughout the year.
What is bioethics?
Ethical justifications require empirical evidence, but must also consider ethical considerations. in addition, bioethics must address the challenges of balancing the individual persons rights with society as a whole. We will practice how to apply reasoning to bioethics, and also how to distinguish ethical considerations from religious, cultural and legal considerations.
Five major goals will be accomplished:
What is NOT a part of bioethics?
At no point will this unit force someone to a particular belief or way of thinking. Instead, I encourage you to support your reasoning's with empirical evidence. In class we will debate some sensitive topics, and I stress that we must learn to share our opinions fairly and withhold negative judgements.
