Behavior Expectations at WWA:
How it Works
In our room, we have a color coded “clip chart” to help encourage and inspire positive choices and responsible behavior. Your child will have a clothespin labeled with his/her assigned number that will begin on “Ready to Learn” every day. Depending on the choices your child makes, the clip can move up or down, or rest comfortably on “Ready to Learn.” In order for your child’s clip to move up, he/she must demonstrate behavior/make choices that go above and beyond the classroom expectations. If your child’s clip moves down, he/she still has an opportunity to correct their behavior and move back up. This encourages children to accept the responsibility of their actions and shows them that they have control over their behavior choices and can make a better choice starting at any moment.
We will be modeling and practicing positive choices throughout the year and will focus on being firm, fair and consistent. The lower half of the chart follows our school wide behavior intervention plan. The yellow area is an official "Warning". The orange area labeled “Teacher’s Choice” is the opportunity for me to address behavior choices according to your child’s individual needs, which could include a time out, think sheet, buddy room, etc.). Not every consequence fits every child/situation. If the student then chooses not to improve their behavior, the clip moves down to red and a "Contact Home" will be made immediately.
The top half of the chart represents positive behavior choices. Each time a student reaches the top of “Super Student”, they receive a jewel for their clothespin.
We would like all WWA students to Be Safe, Be Respectful, & Be Responsible!

Positive Behavior Inteventions and Supports
We believe in a very systematic approach to discipline, providing every student the ability to change and learn from their behavior. In that approach we have a heavy emphasis on the home/school partnership when students need continual support. Using this pyramid approach allows all stakeholders to see the broad base support that we provide to all students whether their behaviors are positive or negative. We feel that although a young person may make some poor choices, it is important for us to frame those decisions as choices and guide that person to make a better choice in the future.
