Adverbs/Adverbial Clauses

These give detail about time, manner, place, frequency or reason.

They add meaning to the verb - there are lots of them listed on the wall in our classroom.

Here are a few examples. These can be used to help you vary your sentence beginnings and therefore write more effective paragraphs.

Examples:

Later on the sun began to shine ore fiercely.

The children played noisily.

Angrily he stormed off.

He fell asleep instantly. or Instantly he fell asleep.

She lit the fire deliberately.

Later on that day it became a lot colder
