Providence Academy General & Vocal Music

Why We Sing

At Providence Academy, we believe and teach that all human beings are created in the Imago Dei, the image of God. As creatures made in His likeness, we are called to imitate Him. All throughout the Bible, we are exhorted and commanded to sing to the Lord, both in times of joy and times of sorrow. Even God sings over us (Zephaniah 3:17); if we wish to serve Him with our whole hearts, we must obey and sing.

Music can be one of the best ways to teach students to correctly order their affections (according to God's way). Our students learn in music class to identify and and appreciate truth, goodness, and beauty.

Singing together also gives us a sense of community, building not only our relationship with God, but with each other as well. As the music program at Providence has developed over the last 14 years, we have seen a physical and spiritual growth in our school community. Through singing at chapel services, retreats, concerts and choral contests, we seek to continually show ourselves approved before Christ and give Him the glory in our singing.
