PHS Thespians Presents
Mean Girls this weekend---------------->
The Angel City Chorale in Los Angeles is doing a project, linked above, called the Red Thread project. It is a way to show Unity amongst us as humans through song. From hope to fear, joy, and resilience, all things that connect us as humans to nature and the planet we live on. The Chorale put out a call for choirs across the country to participate in their project digitally. Our school has been selected to take a photo with our red thread, a ribbon provided by them. The Chorale will then take our photo, identified as Willowcreek Middle School Choirs, Portage Indiana, and feature it in their concert on May 24th, 2026 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. I thought this would be a great way to show my students that we are connected beyond the choirs here in Portage. We will take our photo next week during the school day
Jr. Choralier Camp- June 8-18
I have attached the flyer, but kids can also grab one in class.
The Portage Township Schools Music Department is excited to share a wonderful opportunity for our students to continue growing musically this summer through the Junior Choraliers Show Choir Camp!
This engaging camp is designed especially for our upper elementary students and offers a fun, supportive environment to explore the world of show choir. Students will learn what it means to combine singing, movement, and expression into a dynamic performance style.
During the camp, students can expect to:
Develop healthy singing techniques and vocal confidence
Learn basic choreography and stage movement
Practice teamwork through group performance
Explore musical expression, storytelling, and stage presence
Build listening skills and musical independence
Show choir is a unique experience because it blends music with movement and creativity. Beyond musical growth, students often gain increased confidence, stronger communication skills, and a sense of belonging as they work together toward a shared performance goal. It’s a fantastic way for students to step outside their comfort zones, make new friends, and discover new talents.
Whether your child already loves to sing or is simply curious about trying something new, this camp is a welcoming place to learn and grow. No prior show choir experience is required -- just a willingness to participate and have fun!
Camp runs June 8-18, and will end with a final performance for family and friends side-by-side with current Portage High School Choraliers. The attached flier (click link to open) offers more details regarding times, registration, pricing and location. Hard copies of this pamphlet will also be sent home with your students soon.
