Solo and Ensemble Contest

More information about this event goes home in November each year.

Each year the Indiana State School Music Association hosts Solo and Ensemble to provide additional educational experiences and feedback for student musicians with the critique being used to maintain or improve performance.

Students who wish to participate will learn an art song, spiritual, well-crafted folk song, or other “serious” song and perform it for a judge.  The judge will provide written comments and a rating based on the score the student receives.  Students who receive a Gold or Silver rating will receive a medal.  Students enter in one of five groups:

Group V grades 5-8 Easy music, entering for the first time

Group IV grades 5-12 Easy music, entering for the first or second time

Group III grades 5-12 Medium easy - Medium music

Group II grades 5-12 Medium - Medium difficult music

Group I grades 5-12 Music must be chosen from a current “Required” list

Middle school students are entered in Groups V, IV, and III.

If a student entered last year and received a Gold rating, they must enter in the next higher group.  Mrs. Franks or a private teacher can help in determining which group the student should enter.

Solo Entry Fee:  $16.00

Ensemble Entry Fee:  $8.00 per member
