More on Mrs. Sutton

Thank you for joining me on the this interesting whilst educational journey through various literary and historical eras and writing modes.

To better understand that, maybe understanding me or my philosophy would help.

Personal Information

Born and raised in North Carolina, I am most definitely a Southerner. I embrace my heritage with all the "bless your heart" comments I can muster and others can tolerate. Coming from a strong heritage of educators in my family (several teachers and administrators), I can, without a doubt say, that my life has been mostly about learning and teaching - wanting, eager for information but at the same time driven to give back to others. Thus, my Southern nature is at work each day in the classroom as I give and share information, just like my grandma tried to feed anyone who walked through her backdoor.

After graduating from Harnett Central High School (Go Trojans!) in my hometown of Angier, NC, I trekked out with a plethora of curiosity in search of knowledge in the coastal city of Wilmington, NC where I attended UNC-Wilmington for two years. As I honed my skills and goals for life, I was lead to transfer to East Carolina University where I graduated with a BA in Communication (Public Relations concentration) and minor in English.

My love of the English language has been with me for as long as I can remember. The ever-voracious reader AND writer, I often stayed up even past the late, late shows to read OR write "just one more page". Those early encounters with characters and situations I read or created myself lead me toward various aspirations (aka, pipe dreams):

1) Fill Katie Couric's shoes upon her retirement (sadly, she wears a 6.5 and I, a 7);

2) Become a well-sought but wholly un-famous political speechwriter whose words would ironically make a politician beloved by many;

3) Help generate actual world peace and then write a speech about it that someone else would give.

Now, as I have found and embraced and settled into my life's niche - teaching, my adventurous spirit leads me to enjoy awesome experiences and opportunities with my family. My husband, BFF, and (ironically) partner-in-crime - Chris Sutton - is the patrol captain with ECU Police. We have two hilarious, lovable blessings: Marissa and Emmitt. Our free-time revolves around our love of food (I love to cook/bake, and Chris is a foodie), sports (Go Soccer! Go Pirates!), and traveling (bring on any place large or small, near or far).
