Our online classroom has the same rules and similar practices as our
regular physical classroom, but there are a few additional tips:
Before a class session starts:
Try to join the class in a quiet place, without a lot of noise or action in the background.
Wear “classroom ready” clothes
If you are using video, tell others in your house to do so, too, if your video is on and there is a chance they may walk in front of the video camera.
Make sure your computer is plugged in (if we are using video, it can use up battery power faster than it usually does)
At the beginning of class
You will check in with your instructor and get your assignments.
During class
Your microphone will be muted when you enter; turn it on when you need to talk
It’s usually a good idea to mute your microphone unless you are talking
Take notes
Ask questions – by raising your hand (in the video) or by clicking on the hand picture in the chat. You can also type questions in the chat box, either for the whole class or privately.
If someone is talking and you can’t hear them, let them know (they may have their mic off and not know it)
If the audio or video cuts out, tell your instructor verbally or try to tell your instructor in the chat
If your computer or phone freezes, try logging out and in again
If the instructor is talking too fast, let them know. You can tell them or click on the “too fast” button in the participant box.
If you get cut off or have trouble with the technology, email your instructor
