This webpage is about a book written by Minnie (Weigand) Laird [married name].  Also called: (Minnie) Willhelmina Carolina Fredricka Weigand [birth name].

Minnie (Weigand) Laird and her parents Leonhard Weigand and Theresa (Sch)oenberner) Weigand were homesteaders to Knox County, Nebraska.   Minnie (Wiegand) Laird died in 1948 at Long Beach, California after having written this book of her and her parents life Homesteading in Knox County, Nebraska.  The family always intended on publishing this book.  Ruth Peters a daughter-in-law of Beth (Hoyt) Peters just did this year in 2023 before she goes to "Glory"

The location were they Homesteaded in Knox County, Nebraska was, now has a lake called Lewis and Clark Lake where the Missouri River ran in the 1800's.  One now has the Lewis and Clark Lake shore on the North side of the Devil's Nest.   An area called Weigand is to the East of the Devil's Nest and on the lake shore.  An Indian village called Santee is to the West of the Devil's Nest and on the lake shore.   About the only thing left is the Weigand Cemetery with a fence around it that is padlocked.  There is no road leading to to the cemetery.

One of the things that happen to William and Minnie (Weigand) Laird was to there livery stables, barn and business in Crofton, Nebraska.  During World War I, everyone started driving cars and no one wanted a horse and buggy.  Everyone stopped using there livery stable business.
