My Great Grandmother Mary McBride has Maternal Mitochonrial DNA (mtDNA) Haplogroup: U5a1

This is only past down the female side, Mother to Daughter (A son inherits, but dead ends it). The original generations before Martha McBride's U5a1 Haplogroup Mitochonrial DNA were all born in Northern Ireland. Anyone who has a Mother who has a direct Maternal all female line back to anyone listed above has this mtDNA U5a1. Only those listed in the 6th generation (there may be more) will pass the mtDNA of Mary McBride to future generations.

The 23andMe DNA research organization reports that two Great Grandchildren that are second cousins and descend only on a direct all female line from Martha McBride have this Mitochonrial mtDNA Haplogroup as U5a1. Haplogroup U5 arose among early colonizers of Europe around 40,000 years ago.
