June 13, 2023 - Happy last day of school for students! Don't forget that our Destiny Online Library is available 24/7/365 and I hope you enjoy our ebooks, resources, and educational games throughout the summer! To log in:

May 25-26, 2023 - Media classes are cancelled due to field days. Please make sure to return your library books for end of year close out. Don't forget you can enjoy our Destiny Online Library and Ebooks 24/7/365 and I hope you enjoy our resources.

May 15 - 19, 2023 - Book Fair: Our book fair will be up and running May 15th to 19th. Students can purchase materials during their scheduled time. Check on Class Dojo for our book fair class schedule and I look forward to helping everyone find books that they love. Any volunteers would be very much appreciated and thank you for all that you do for our students.
May 11-12, 2023 - Book Fair Preview: Hello everyone! On May 11th or May 12th each classroom teacher has scheduled a time to bring their classes to the book fair so students can write down what they are interested in purchasing. Book Fair purchasing will occur next week. Any volunteers would be very much appreciated and thank you for all that you do for our students.
May 1, 2023 - We have much to celebrate in May including Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Jewish American Heritage Month and Cinco de Mayo. Check around the Media Center for books about these amazing cultures and event. Also, you can utilize our Destiny Online Library and Databases to explore these amazing cultures and holidays.
April 26, 2023 - We are so pleased to announce that our school will have a Spring Book Fair between May 15-19 during students Media Classes. Students will preview the book fair with their teachers on May 11th or 12th. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering since the Book Fair will be during my classes. We would love the help. Don't forget that you can also purchase items online that will be directly shipped to your residence. April 24 - May 5, 2023 - Library Media Classes will be once a week and on a different schedule due to testing. I look forward to seeing you in class and check in with your classroom teacher about your schedule.

Students (grades 1-5) will create a self portrait using elements of art covered in Library Media Lessons.
PreK & K - Explore visual artwork and text in picture books, artist biographies and digital visual art tools.
Grades 1-5 - Explore visual artwork, artist biographies and learn about digital artwork resources in our Destiny Online Library. Students will create a self portrait using elements of art covered in Library Media Lessons.

April 1, 2023 - April is National School Library Month, National Poetry Month and Earth Day is April 22nd. Check around the Media Center for book displays about libraries & librarians, research techniques & reading, poetry, Earth Day, and how to help save our environment.
March 30, 2023 - Don't forget that students learn from home tomorrow, March 31st for their 1/2 day of school. After that school will be closed for spring break until Tuesday, April 11th. Don't forget that you can use our Destiny Online Library Ebooks and Resources any time during the break. See you back at school on Tuesday, April 11th and I hope you have a safe and wonderful break.
March 6, 2023 - Our students are doing a fantastic job in Library Media classes and thank you for returning your books on time.
Our new Library Media Lesson Unit will focus on:
Exploring Visual Art Resources, artist biographies and visual art tools in our Laurel Elementary Library, Bitmoji classroom and Destiny Online Library. Book check out for Grades 1-5. Students will learn about the artists Horrace Pippin and Frida Kahlo. Students will create a self portrait using elements of art covered in Library Media Lessons.
Lower Grades - Explore visual artwork, artist biographies and introduction to digital visual art tools.
Upper Grades - Explore visual artwork, artist biographies and learn about digital artwork resources in our Destiny Online Library.
March 1, 2023 - Happy Women's History Month! Look around the Library for book displays featuring many important women throughout history. There are also many amazing resources in our Destiny Online Library and Databases that you can explore and I look forward to seeing you in class soon.

January 24, 2023 - Hello there and tomorrow, January 25, 2023 students will be learning from home and will not have a live Library Media class. Instead, students can focus on having fun practicing their reading. Students can pick a book or classroom materials to practice reading with or they can pick a story from Storyline Online to watch from this website: https://www.storylineonline.net/. Library Media assignments are for student enrichment and are not graded.

Lower Grades: We will be focusing on book series such as Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Berenstain Bears, Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Katie Woo and more.
Upper Grades: Book series can be fiction or nonfiction and feature reoccurring themes, characters, and/or subjects. Some examples of our new books are:
Fiction Series: Astrid & Apollo, Yasmin, Jalen’s Big City Life, Sadiq, Harry Potter and the Hola Lola series.
Nonfiction Series: About animals, biographies, history and mythology from around the world.

October 31, 2022 - Our in person book fair store starts today and runs through Friday, November 4th. I have sent our schedule and important information on class Dojo and don't forget that you can load money onto Ewallet so the students don't have to bring cash to purchase items. October 28, 2022 - Our online book fair store starts today. If you follow the below link and scroll to the bottom, any books you purchase will be sent directly to your residence and our school gets credit for buying library books and materials. https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/laurelelementaryschool
We are very excited to host our first in person book fair starting on Monday. Students can purchase items during their scheduled Library Media classes and during the morning. I have attached the schedule and look forward to helping.
