This course is an historical study of the recent political, cultural, economic, diplomatic, and social developments of the United States. World history, as it relates to the United States as a world leader, will also be examined. Geography and current events will receive special attention.

Units of study include:

  • The Post-World War II Era

  • The Kennedy and Johnson Years

  • Civil Rights and the Era of Activism

  • The Vietnam War

  • The 1970s

  • The 1980s and 1990s

  • The 21st Century

*Students may choose to take AP European History, AP United States History, or AP Government and Politics in the place of Modern United States History in their junior year.

The textbook used for Honors Modern United States History is Prentice Hall's 2010 U.S. History: Modern America, which is available in hard copy.
