Tips for a Great kindergarten Year

Birthday Celebrations/Invitations: Birthdays are such an exciting day for children. If you want to bring a treat for your child’s birthday, please bring items that are easy to handle ALONG WITH NAPKINS. Please do not send items that require cutting. Our classroom is nut-free. Therefore, all snacks and birthday treats must not contain any nut products. This includes peanut butter.

School policy states that invitations may not be given out by the teacher at school, nor can we give out student addresses. Please refer to the school directory for addresses. These generally come out at the end of September.

Mail Folder: Folders will come home each day. Inside you will find important papers from either school or me. Most of the mail from the office comes home on Mondays. Please be sure to check your child's mail folder each night and empty it before school the next day.

Homework Folder: Homework/Practice Work will be given on Mondays and should be returned in your child's homework folder the following Monday. If there is no school on Monday, it is due the next school day. Please be sure to review your child's homework for neatness and correctness. Fixing mistakes together will ensure mastery of skills. Make sure your child understands the directions, and allow him/her to complete the homework independently, with your guidance if needed. Please do not do the homework FOR your child, including writing his/her name on the assignment. After you have checked it over, please allow your child to put the homework in the homework folder. Then have your child put the homework folder in his/her backpack. Starting good homework and organizational habits cannot start too early.

Absence Excuse: If for any reason your child is absent, please call Mrs. Patti Keeler or Mrs. Heimbach in the office, or email pkeeler@pennridge.org and sheimbac@pennridge.org. Sometimes I cannot check my email for an extended part of the day, and unless Mrs. Keeler or Mrs. Heimbach get the email, an automated system will call your phone telling you that you did not inform the school of the absence.

Snack: Each day your child will be given the opportunity to have snack if s/he is hungry. Snack time is considered a "working snack". Children must be able to manage a snack independently. The only snacks that are permitted in the classroom while students are working are "dry" snacks, and only one snack is requested. Please do not send in items that are "wet" (yogurt, fruit cups, etc.). These lead to big messes and interfere with instructional time. Send in snacks in a lunch box so that your child may take anything leftover home. Please be sure to send in a healthy snack that will be helpful in nourishing your child's "brain". :-) Sooooo, no junk food if possible, please! We have a water fountain in our classroom available at all times, or your child may bring a water bottle. Water is the only drink that students are permitted to have in the classroom due to ants and stickiness. No juice is permitted during snack.

Star of the Week: Each week there will be a student that is the “Star” of the week. Your little "STAR" will have special privileges that week, like being the messenger, line leader and teacher's helper. Student's are picked randomly, and everyone gets a turn by the end of the school year.
