Anatomy and Physiology
Anatomy and Physiology
Description:
This event is usually done as stations that teams rotate through. It can also be done as an individual test taking event, where each station has been copied into a test booklet for the team. Teams may be viewing any combination of models, pictures, diagrams/charts, or recorded/written descriptions. They will then be asked to answer questions (multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer, etc) related to the samples including but not limited to: basic anatomy identification, related diseases and conditions, making observations, inferences, predictions, calculations, analyses and conclusions.
The topic for the 2018 competition Respiratory, Digestive, Immune
Materials: Teams MUST bring a writing instrument. Teams may also bring 2 non-programmable calculators and one 8.5 x 11" two-sided page of notes in any form.
Event Leader will provide all samples and testing equipment necessary to complete the test, the official test and answer sheet.
Scoring: High score wins. Predetermined questions and the quality of free-response answers will be used to break ties.
Common Mistakes:
- Every year a handful of teams are not able to bring their calculator into the event because they do not bring the proper type. Be sure calculators brought to the event are NON-programmable.
Recommendations:
- - While only one page of notes is allowed in the actual event, make a notebook to study from.
- - The topics to be covered are clearly outlined in the official rules. Write these topics out and make notes as you study each area.
- - For each area, make sure basic anatomy can be identified both in a diagram and on a model.
- - Have a definitions page to study from for each topic area for tricky terms.
