Mrs. Heffington's Math and Science

Students will have homework Monday-Thursday each week. Students must also study their multiplication facts as we will have tests each Friday. I have attached the note that went home discussing multiplication facts.

Parents, I will not be posting homework online as of now. Students are required to write down their homework daily in class.

Fact quizzes will cover ALL multiplication facts from now on. I will be taking 5 seconds of time off each week until we get to 1 minute for 20 questions. Please be sure your child is still studying each night.

Below are the anchor charts we use in class. I will add more to these weekly. Feel free to use these to help your child with their homework if needed.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!

Parents/Guardians,

In 3rd grade students must master their multiplication facts 0-12. We will be starting the first week of school learning these facts. It is imperative that your child memorize these facts. We use them in many concepts learned in 3rd grade. If your child knows these, it also makes word problems easier for them because they can focus on the key words and not be worried about how to figure out the multiplication problem. We will be making fact cards each week for your child to study.

Please practice your child’s fact cards with them every night. Feel free to work ahead of the class! The faster we learn them, the better!

WHAT WILL THE TEST LOOK LIKE? WHEN WILL THEY BE?

  • Every Friday students will test
  • 0’s and 1’s means any multiplication problem that is multiplied by 0 or 1. (7x1, 0x8)
  • Tests will be cumulative which means that each week, your child will be tested on the facts for that week as well as the previous weeks.
  • There will be 20 problems and students will be given 3 minutes. We will work our way down 5 seconds a week after October 25 until we get to 1 minute.

These are the test dates for multiplication fact quizzes as well as what will be tested. New facts are bolded.
