The parent e-communication listed below refers to classroom guidance lessons that will occur during National Bullying Prevention Month in October.
At Jaindl, we are a "Bully-Free" School: Our students learn at the beginning of the school year what this phrase means. There are posters throughout our school environment that state the key points to making our school a "Bully-Free," safe place to be:
We will not bully others.
We will try to help students who are bullied.
We will include students who are easily left out.
When we know somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
It is very important for our students to understand and know the difference between bullying and conflicts.
Bullying always involves aggressive behavior that is unwanted and creates an imbalance of power that has been repeated over time. Conflicts are disagreements, arguments, or problems we have. A disagreement at recess time that resulted in name calling doesn’t necessarily mean a child is being bullied: More likely, they are in a conflict. Learning to assess the situations, knowing how and when to stand up for yourself and others, and knowing when to ask for help are keys steps in problem-solving in our relations with others. Please refer to the "No Problem!" list below for strategies that help resolve conflicts. I will gladly clarify any of the strategies should you need further explanation.
