Massanutten Schoolhouse

Following the 1869 Constitutional Convention at which time public free schools became mandatory, this building was erected in the Massanutten section of our County in 1875.  This building was given to the Page County Heritage Association by Thomas and Barbara Jennings, the owners of the farm on which the building was located.

The sixteen desks in the building are the original desks that were used in the first public schools in Page County.  These desks came from the Naked Creek Public School in the Shenandoah Iron Works Magisterial District and the Blainsville Public School, in Marksville Magisterial District.  Two of the desks were donated by Edwin and Margaret Rothgeb.

The Massanutten One-Room Schoolhouse is currently open by appointment only.  To schedule an appointment, please contact membership@pagecountyheritage.org
