RESEARCH PAPER CHECKLIST!
THE SEVEN TRAITS of STRONG WRITING
Rubric for Research Paper
1 Point = The author needs to establish goals in the practice of editing and revising. The writing had many mistakes, and the ideas are not clear, concise, and organized, so the writing was hard to read and follow. There was little or no support for arguments/thesis. If required, there was little or no credible sources cited, and the bibliography ( if included) was presented with little or no sources and was not in proper MLA format.
2 Points = The writing is a little clear, but there are still too many mistakes that make the writing difficult to understand and read. There is some support for arguments, but not enough to clearly understand or prove ideas/thesis. There needs to be more editing and revision. The writing was in MLA format for most of the paper. If needed, sources were cited for most statements, and a bibliography was presented in MLA format.
3 Points = The author shows some strength as a writer by having mostly clear, concise sentences. The format is MLA. The writing needs more precise editing and revision to prevent all mistakes. The writing needs more description, evidence, and support in order to convey arguments clearly. Also, sources are cited properly and a bibliography if presented in MLA format.
4 Points = The author shows strength in writing overall. The piece is easy to understand and makes sense all the way through. There are very little or no mistakes, and the writing shows support for ideas/arguments. Details and descriptions are evident and they strengthen ideas/argument. It is in MLA format. If required, sources are consistently cited throughout paper, and a bibliography is presented in MLA format.
