QUALITIES OF A STRONG EDITOR (Written by and for the students)
1. Honesty: be a good friend by being truthful in a polite way.
2. Edit Overall: look at the whole piece and provide feedback for strengths, as well as mistakes.
3. Provide Balance: keep constructive criticism and compliments on a balanced level. Always maintain a positive and friendly tone when giving advice.
4. Re-Read: read the author’s composition multiple times.
5. Interrogate: ask questions of the author to stimulate details and deeper ideas.
6. Understand The Authors: readers should have a clear understanding of the author’s voice and tone in their writing.
7. Don’t Be a Hypocrite: model correct mechanics and spelling when commenting.
8. Eye for Detail: be meticulous and focused while editing. Editors should make sure they understand content.
10. Educate: while editing, provide reasons for your suggestions. Provide new ideas for improvement.
