Loving Language Arts with Loch
WHAT'S UP?
Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year!
~Spread love wherever you go...First of all in your own house. Let no one ever come to you and leave without feeling better and happier. Be the living expression of Kindness. Kindness in your face, eyes and smile. Be Kindness.

What is Our Class About?
In our class, students learn about Language Arts (core focus on English Composition and Literature). We will practice reading, writing, speaking, critical thinking, and listening through hard work, love, fun, and meaningful participation.
Our classroom is a family and a community. We work together in a positive, constructive, and fun manner! Students are often observed working in pairs and groups on projects as well as individually and also within our school community.
Students participate in rigorous assignments and projects that involve reading, writing, editing, discussion, performance, presentation and the arts. Quizzes and exams are given frequently in a low stress environment so students can perform to their best potential.
Students will consistently practice reading and writing through READING/WRITING WORKSHOP in our class. They will be given writing tools and practice through lessons and activities they will collect in their WRITING AND READING JOURNALS. The English language will be practiced and celebrated through authentic, meaningful projects, lessons and activities.
Students will read and write poetry, expository essays, and narratives with guiding prompts as well as self reflection. We will be collaborating with the History class for in-depth expository reading and writing. We will hand write many things, but we primarily will be using GOOGLE DRIVE and GOOGLE CLASSROOM as our publishing interface.
Other challenging assignments include presentations, creative art/writing projects, higher level, critical thinking discussion and writing, and collaboration projects.
Students in our class receive and assist in creating rubrics for all assignments. They are also a part of their evaluation process on a consistent basis. In our class we often reflect and write about areas of growth, goals, and our successes in progress. Students keep their work documented in their portfolios throughout the year.
Thank you for visiting our class web site. Our students are exceptional human beings with kind hearts and intellectual minds. Pacific Union is so proud to have them as part of the family!
Hugs and Happy Learning,
~Mrs. Loch
A Little About My Philosophy...
I believe in teaching children with love. I want our classroom to be a safe, fun, place where students feel challenged, but are secure enough to take risks, work hard, and reach goals. I also believe that students should be in the moment and enjoy the process and progress of their learning...not just "arrive" at a grade.
Our class is filled with reflection, evaluation, support, encouragement, accomplishments, intellectual challenges, and consistent expectations. The curriculum is rigorous, but engaging, dynamic, and meaningful to our students.
All students in my class are respected and cherished. We do many team building activities together so they all feel connected and feel included in our class family. When the student feels secure, nurtured, honored, and accepted, amazing learning takes place!
Our class has a harmonious balance of active times as well as quiet, reflective time. Students always have something to do that will enhance their intellect and skills as learners.
I really adore my practice as an educator. I love learning with my students and from them too. We invite you to come and observe the miracles and magic of learning that occur on a daily basis. It is really wonderful to witness!
