Schedule 2023-2024
OWN2 ES/OWN3 ES
Students comes to the library during their scheduled library class once a week. Students in Kindergarten and First grade learn about books, proper book care and handling, authors and illustrators and basic library routines and library skills.
Students in Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth grades will listen/read stories, both new and classic literature, practice library skills and routines, and learn to research and how to use various reference sources. In addition, academic integrity becomes a lynchpin in OWNCS's lessons for grades two and up as we learn about research, plagiarism and how to cite our sources.
Students who are visiting the library outside of their scheduled class period must have a written pass from their teacher. If they come to the library while there is a library class or meeting, students will be instructed to return at a later time.
Be RESPECTFUL and POLITE to everyone!
Treat all school and library materials with care!
Return books on time!
Do not bring food or drink into the library!
Consequences include a verbal warning, completing a reflection/think sheet, phone call/message home.
Students do not receive grades for library.
Library skills, which include knowing library procedures, responsibilities, participation during library class and progression with Information Literacy skills, completion of library assignments, research skills and quizzes will be incorporated into our library lessons in collaboration with our classroom teachers.
Books are checked out for one week and are due back at each student’s next library class. Books may be re-checked (as long as no one else is waiting for that book.)
At this time Kindergarten does not check out books from the library, though they do have access to the collection during library time.
First and Second grades check out 1 book per week.
Third grade checks out 1 book with an option for two if required for classwork and reports.
Fourth and Fifth grades check out 2 books per week.
Middle School students may check out up to two books at one time.
Over-due or late books: Students are advised to return their books on time. Overdue items must be returned before other items may be checked out.
Damage: Students are responsible for the materials checked out to them. If a book is damaged or becomes damaged in a student's care, please do not attempt to fix it. Instead, please return it to the library with an explanation for repair.
Minor damage will be fixed and the student may checkout, but if a student consistently returns books damaged in their care, their check-out privileges will be suspended for a week or two.
If a student returns a book that is so damaged that it cannot be repaired. The student will have their check-out privileges suspended for one week.
Fines
No fines are charged for late books but children are expected to return their books weekly during their library time, before school, or during the day with permission of their classroom teacher. Books being used for school book reports or research papers will be renewed on request.
The library resources are for everyone in the school and in order to keep our collection intact children are responsible for the books they check out. If a child loses a book they will be asked to pay to replace it or pay for a replacement copy. If you find your book within 30 days, you may return it to the library and request a refund.
Students with outstanding books or unpaid lost books at the end of the school year will have their report cards held in the school office until their library obligations are cleared.
