Place Value by Year Level - IXL
The advantage of using these over Excel is that two students can interact with the one spreadsheet and if they are close by, it encourages cooperation and use of maths language. Use them with two students on different laptops - get one to remove a number, and the other to say what number is removed, and then replace it.
Some variations and teaching points
Use lots of maths language - what comes before, after, between. What is the name of that number?
Get them to remove groups of numbers e.g. 4 => 9 and say them out loud as they put them back. Get them to put the numbers back going from the higher number (counting backwards)
Get one student to count as the other highlights skip counting number sequences
Use it on the data projector as a whole class activity
Encourage the students to remove numbers in patterns e.g. 24, 34, 35 - or 3, 6, 9
One student starts a pattern - the other has to guess what the pattern is, and complete it.
