Pep Band

Pep Band attendance is counted as a part of the 2nd semester grade. We take attendance at every game. Each pep band is worth 5 points per game in the gradebook and will be entered at the end of the semester. Students are required to attend a total of 8 pep bands throughout the year. (Homecoming does not count towards that total). Post season games count towards this requirement, but cannot be predicted until post season play.

Lettering points are awarded for pep band attendance, with 2x points for all games beyond your 8, and 3x the lettering points are given for attending post season games.

It is each student’s personal responsibility to keep track of individual pep bands. After every game an attendance sheet will be posted, and any mistakes can be fixed at that time. (It is not appropriate or helpful to come in at the end of the semester and say that there were mistakes)

Students that come late, leave early, or are in general absent when we are playing in the stands will we given partial credit based on their participation in the game. Students who attend the game, but not playing with the band, when we are playing at events and do not meet their pep band requirement for the year will not be allowed to receive full credit at the end of the semester.

Athletes who cannot play at the games are expected to notify the director of their conflicts and we will help create a plan for fulfilling the requirement. Please facilitate your work to meet the pep band requirement.

Homecoming

Homecoming is Friday, October 8th and all band students march in the school parade

(this happens during the school day at 1 pm) and at the football game that happens in the evening. Going to practice, marching in the parade, and performing at half-time are a substantial part of the semester grade. More details will be emailed regarding the morning practices.

Students are required to march with the band in the parade, not other clubs or sports. Students can wear the attire of the clubs or sports they represent or wear Orono colors, jerseys, or band shirts for the parade. (Senior Captains of fall sports, dance team members, cheerleaders, and homecoming court are exempt from the parade)

For the football game in the evening, we will wear our marching band uniforms. More details will be emailed regarding timing for the event.

Football players, cheerleaders, and dance team members s till need to attend the practices and will have an alternative assignment to make up for missing the halftime show. Students will also be graded on memorization and performance of the music for the National Anthem and School Song.

Lessons

Beginning approximately three weeks into the school year we start weekly lessons. Lessons are around 10 minutes in length and often happen during a study hall or any non-math/science class. Lessons will be a combination of skill and musicianship development & lessons pertaining to the specific musical interests of each student. More information on this once lessons begin

*On makeup lessons: If a student misses a lesson, they need to sign up for a makeup lesson. Makeup lesson sign up sheets are posted on the band board and it is each student’s responsibility to make up each lesson with a time that works best for his or her schedule within the allotted makeup lesson window (typically 1 week after the missed lesson). Lessons not made up in this time frame will result in a permanent zero.

*If an assigned lesson time does not work in your schedule, please let me know at the beginning of the semester. We can always rearrange schedules at the beginning of the semester.
