8th Grade H-ELA
8th Grade H-ELA
The 8th grade H-ELA course continues to hone the writing skills of persuasive, analytical, and comparative essays with reading assignments that finish our study of Hesiod's Ages of Man and Northrop Frye's Hero Progression. Specifically, we'll pick up with the First Bronze Age / Realistic Hero and finish with the Iron Age / Anti-Hero. Our core novels this year are either Fever 1793 or The Witch of Blackbird Pond (depending on which group you're in), I am Malala, Romeo and Juliet, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. You will also get an introduction to the two Advanced Placement classes via rhetoric and poetry analysis.Â
