Students in 6th grade H-ELA can expect to play with language as a way of consolidating the reading, writing, and speaking and listening skills they acquired in elementary school. In addition, they will begin the formal analytical, persuasive, and comparative essay forms that will dominate their ELA experience for the remainder of their Honors track.
Reading will consist of literature that follows an allegory of a human life: childhood (The Phantom Tollbooth), puberty (Hatchet), teen years (City of Ember, The Outsiders), adulthood (Old Man and the Sea).
