7th H - ELA

Students in 7th grade Honors ELA can expect to build on the creative and analytical skills they acquired in 6th grade by including metacognition in their arguments. The year's literature also expands our allegory from a single human lifecycle to all of society via Hesiod's Ages of Man and Norton Frye's Progression of the Hero. Our core texts begin with the Golden Age / Mythological Hero (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief) and continue through the Silver Age / Romantic Hero (The Sword in the Stone, American Tall Tales). Along the way we will compare / contrast Utopian and Dystopian visions of society as well as delve into the sub-genre of climate fiction.
