If you are looking for books for your child to read at home in place of a library book, there are several sites offering on- line books. Your child can read these books or you can read to them. Some sites have videos of the books being read. Some sites are free to everyone while others are free to teachers but charge parents. I will leave it up to the parent to decide the options for at home.
Reach out to family and friends with children older than your children. They probably have bags of books that their children have out grown on a back shelf in their house. They would love to pass them to your children to read!
My favorite sites:
Sites that are free to teachers but charge parents:
Epic! www.getepic.com My favorite site! I like this site because many of the books are simply a slide show and I can read the books to the students. They also have books being read aloud.
Vooks! Vook.com Books are turned into a video, similar to a cartoon. Story is read to the child.
Sites that are free to everyone
Story time with Ryan and Craig www.ryanandcraig.com My favorite site for read aloud! Ryan and Craig read popular books with funny voices and stop along the reading to prompt students to think about the story as they read. Keeps the students interested and makes reading fun. Also, will teach you how to prompt your child as you read a story to them. They read famous/popular books.
Storyline on-line www.storylineonline.net Famous actors reading books aloud.
