Course Description:

This class will be learning about the geographical make-up of our planet Earth and how that geography affects people. Students will gain an understanding of what it means to be an active, responsible, and knowledgeable citizen of the World.

Course Objectives:

    • Understand the different aspects of God’s creation of the physical planet Earth, as well as, population and the diversity of cultures.
    • Memorize and apply the five themes of geography to the geographic locations of the world.
    • Locate major land features, cities, states, and understand the economic, cultural and political factors in United States and Canada, Latin America, Europe, Russia, Asia and Africa.

Textbooks are required to be covered at all times!

Materials Needed:

    • Pencils/Pens
    • Colored Pencils
    • A4 Binder - 30 rings
      • 5-binder tabs(separaters)
    • A4 Lined paper
    • Scissors
    • 3x5 (7.6cm x 12.7 cm) Lined Index Cards

Grading:

    • Tests/Quizzes - 30%
    • Projects - 25%
    • Assignments - 20%
    • Online Posts - 15%
    • Notebooks - 10%

Expectations for this class:

    • Actively participate in class, such as answering questions and taking notes.
    • Keep Binder up to date.
    • Turn in all assignments on time. Late assignments are deducted a letter grade each day it is late, 0 credit 4 or more days late. (If there are extenuating circumstances, I will address that on a case by case basis - students will need to meet with me to discuss the situation)

Absent work needs to be made up in a timely manner.

    • Pay attention and follow directions carefully.
    • Post required responses to the weekly discussion on the class page.
      • Posts are due by Fridays 11:59pm for full credit.
      • Posts completed by Sundays 11:59pm are 70%.
      • Posts completed after Sundays are 50%.

    • First Quarter - Basics of Geography, United States and Canada, Latin America
    • Second Quarter - Europe, Russia, And Southwest Asia
    • Third Quarter - Africa and South Asia
    • Fourth Quarter - Southeast Asia, East Asia

Class Rules:

    • Respect all people and property
    • Speak English Only
    • Use the bathroom before or after class
    • Be prepared for class
      • Homework needs to be completed before class begins
    • Do not work on “other” work in class during class lecture
    • Do your own work, sharing answers” will not be tolerated
    • No chewing gum and no drinks (except water in a clear bottle)
