Hello Husky musicians,
If you are using these plans, I did not expect to be absent today.
My expectations for you are that you will:
Follow the "Husky Way." Huskies are Respectful, Responsible and Safe.
Be respectful of the adult in the room, no matter who it is.
Always ask before leaving the room and follow all class sign-out procedures.
Only one person may be out of the room at a time.
Use your ipad ONLY for the activities provided. You may not be on any other sites. I am trusting you to do the work. Examples: It would not be appropriate for you to be watching other videos, listening to music or playing non-musical games.
Voice Levels of 0 or 1 are appropriate for these activities. If you are having technical difficulty, you may quietly ask a friend for help, but this is not a time for social conversation.
Students and classes may earn "Bark" incentives and / or other treats for good reports left by the substitute teacher.
There are two sets of plans. Make sure you look to see which one is for your class. You will need your ipad.
Plan 1: All Band and Orchestra
Digital Classroom Emergency Activities
Plan 2:
7/8 band, ALL orchestra
Please follow these instructions and give thoughtful answers to your questions. You will need:
Your ipad
Headphones/earbuds
Class Website: bit.ly/huskymusic
Sign in on the seating chart as you enter the room. (Just like always) This will help our sub take attendance quickly.
Now for the good stuff!
You will watch the following mini videos on instruments and answer the questions on the sheet handed out by the substitute teacher.
Please give thoughtful answers. Yes. This will count.
You will have time to watch at least 4 videos and complete the response form.
Fill out this response form:
Video #1 How to read music
Video #2 How a brass instrument works
Video #4 A different way to visualize rhythm
Video #6- Music and Math, the genius of Beethoven
6th grade BAND- These are for you!
(7/8 BAND may also use these)
Follow this link to the Beginning Band Bootcamp. (Follow the link to the wix site if redirected)
Choose "How to read music 101" from the top menu.
Percussion may follow the percussion link on the home page.
There are more percussion directions below.
Woodwinds and Brass-
Look for your instrument on this page.
On the right, there is a picture of the instrument.
On the left, there is a You Tube link that describes the fingering chart and how to read it
If you know how to read the chart, you can go right to the fingering exercise.
You can also use the fingering chart in your binder or book to help you with this work.
Woodwinds can select the instrument right from this page.
Brass students
Select valved brass (trumpet, horn or euphonium (baritone))
Trombone picks trombone
Now you need to select your instrument on the next screen by choosing "set instrument."
After you choose your instrument, hit "set instrument" again. Now you can use the trainer.
Percussion
From the home page, select the percussion link or click here to go to the percussion site.
Using the menu at the top of the page, select "Snare Drum."
There are five videos about percussion technique. If you would like to try any of these as you are watching, you may quietly use a snare drum mute or beetle pad with sticks on the floor. Please do not use the snare drums since everyone has their own work and this is not a noisy day. (So, you're sitting on the floor with your computer and next to, or in front of your computer, the beetle pad is on the floor for you to explore the technique.)
If you complete all 5 videos (I would recommend repeating these since they are all great technique to practice) you can watch the other videos on mallet and auxiliary percussion. Please do not "try out" these techniques just yet! We'll be covering those in lessons. :)
