Online Databases

Online databases are collections of articles, sometimes specialized in a certain area of information.  They are from trusted sources and our state and/or our school pays for access to them. Usernames/passwords for these databases are accessible through the High School library. 


Which Resource Should I Use? This document will list resources that would be recommended to use by topic such as Current Events and Social Issues to History and Sciences. Note: You will be asked to sign in with your @nsdtitans account to access the document. 



CQ Researcher is a collection of weekly research reports on recent news topics and issues of broad interest in the public policy sphere. Reports address a wide variety of subjects, including health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy. Each report is researched and written by a seasoned journalist, footnoted, and professionally fact checked. Each report includes an introductory overview, background and chronology on the topic, an assessment of the current situation, tables and maps, a pro/con debate by representatives of opposing positions, and bibliographies of key sources. 


Available through the Nebraska Library Commission. You can get NebraskAccess  with your driver's license number or our password, available in the HS library. Databases include Explora (will access multiple databases at once),  Biography Reference Center, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, Points of  View Reference Center and more! You can also access hundreds of full text magazines and periodicals through MAS complete. 




SIRS Issues Researcher delivers diverse perspectives on today's complex social issues with relevant, credible information and tools that equip students to think critically about global controversies. Articles on current events, politics, and science.   Username and password available in the library.  




 The World Book Encyclopedia is an American encyclopedia. This online encyclopedia is designed to cover major areas of knowledge uniformly, but it shows particular strength in scientific, technical, historical and medical subjects.  Please ask the library for the username  and password.

ERIC  ERIC is a comprehensive, easy-to-use, searchable, Internet-based bibliographic and full-text database of education research and information.

PBSLearning Media Nebraska Public Media and PBS have curated FREE, curriculum-aligned videos, interactives, lesson plans, and more for teachers like you. 


Agriculture Resources

USDA Search SEARCH is the USDA National Agricultural Library’s main search tool. It provides simple, one-stop access to more than 8 million records covering all aspects of agriculture and related disciplines. 


Social Studies Resources


AllSides We expose people to information and ideas from all sides of the political spectrum so they can better understand the world — and each other.  

CIA World Factbook  - The World Factbook presents the basic realities about the world in which we live in and is one of the U.S. Government’s most accessed publications. This resource provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 262 countries.

CultureGrams  the aim of CultureGrams has been to foster understanding and appreciation of the world's countries and peoples by creating and publishing concise, reliable, and up-to-date cultural content. 

Data.gov- Data.gov is the United States government's open data website. It provides access to datasets published by agencies across the federal government. Data.gov is intended to provide access to government open data to the public, achieve agency missions, drive innovation, fuel economic activity, and uphold the ideals of an open and transparent government.  

Kids in the House The Kids in the House website is a public service provided by the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives. Their mission is to provide educational and entertaining information about the legislative branch of the United States Government to students of all ages. Topics covered include the role of the U.S. House of Representatives, the legislative process, and House history.

Making of America- The Making of America Project created a digital collection of primary documents related to American History. 

National ArchivesTheir website is easy to navigate and includes lots of teacher resources. They feature a daily historical document relating to an event from that day in history. The online catalog can be searched using keywords, and 100 "milestone" documents are identified as significant to American history. 

Smithsonian's History Explorer Smithsonian's History Explorer was developed by the National Museum of American History in partnership with the Verizon Foundation to offer hundreds of free, innovative online resources for teaching and learning American history. 

US History - information on US History and the US Government

Voices of Democracy  Voices of Democracy promotes the study of great speeches and debates in U.S. history. 

World History Encyclopedia- online world history encyclopedia.  Our mission is to engage people with cultural heritage and to improve history education worldwide. 


Health and Science Resources

TeensHealth aims to give you the tools and confidence to make the best health choices. Nemours® TeensHealth is part of the Nemours® KidsHealth® website. 

WorldWide Science- operated by the US Department of Energy, can search materials including conference papers, articles, and other scientific documents. WorldWideScience.org allows the user to search multiple scientific sources from around the world with a single query. 

National Science Digital Library  The National Science Digital Library provides high quality online educational resources for teaching and learning, with current emphasis on the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines—both formal and informal, institutional and individual, in local, state, national, and international educational settings.  

Merck Manuals Find information on medical topics, symptoms, drugs, procedures, news and more.

Lincoln City Libraries Databases- you must have a library card from the LCL. Great access to databases for education, including EBSCO.

Wesleyan Honors Academy Students

If you are taking a college credit class through the Wesleyan Honors Academy, you have access to Wesleyan's library and databases. Your teacher has login information needed to access these resources.
