Homework...in Kindergarten??
Your homework is to give your child plenty of time to play, relax, read, draw or write, (and sleep) each day after school. Kindergarten is hard work and research has proven that there is no benefit to homework below fourth grade. An interesting article on homework in kindergarten can be found here.
Some suggestions:
*Read every night! Read to your child, have your child read to you (looking at the pictures and retelling counts ;)), or read together.
*Try some of my "At Home Ideas" in the section labeled as such in my Weekly Newsletter.
*Look for shapes, numbers, and opportunities for counting and comparing objects in your daily life. Play board games and card games together.
*I will send home Fundations (our phonics and handwriting program) pages for you to practice with your child. Many children benefit from practicing handwriting at home. You can have your child practice writing letters in shaving cream, sand, with sidewalk chalk, with dry erase markers, etc. to make it more engaging. Again, you do not need to return anything to school.
*Visit interesting and fun places together; give your child plenty of experiences and hands-on learning opportunities.
*If there is something I think your child should work on at home, I will let you know.
