Why should my child join the band?

A strong body of evidence indicates that music can play an important role in improving academic performance. Furthermore, it is a fun and rewarding experience that will help foster your child’s creativity and encourage cooperative learning!

When can my child join the band?

Any student entering fourth grade or older may join the band. 

How can my Child join the band?

How do I get my child an instrument?

Our music department has a business relationship with Zeswitz Music. They serve several school districts in our area and offer excellent instrument rentals that are perfect for the young musician. The rental process is entirely online. Please follow the link provided. Parents are welcome to go elsewhere to find their child an instrument. But please be warned that there are many cheap products on the market that end up doing more harm than good. They may actually inhibit your child's learning! It's always best to talk to Mr. Jonkman.

How often are instrument lessons?

Students will get one 30 minute lesson per six day cycle in small groups of 2 - 5. Your child’s lesson will remain the same day each week, but the time is on a rotating schedule. Starting in January the band will meet for band rehearsals during the school day once per six day cycle.The schedule is on the lesson schedule page.

When/where are band rehearsals/CONCERTS?

Let's face it. The whole reason kids join band is so they can get to perform and show off all that they've learned! Therefore, we have several performances throughout their time in elementary band to keep them engaged and focused on sounding the best they possibly can! Please see the 2023-24 Schedule for more details about after school events, including after school rehearsals and performances.
