Citing Sources
Did you take notes from a free website? Follow this format to cite:
Author's last name, firstname. "Title of Web Page." Title of Website, Sponsor or Publisher, Date Accessed, URL.
Did you take notes from Opposing Viewpoints, Research in Context, Encyclopedia Britannica or other database? Copy and paste the (MLA 8 format) citation from the citation tool.
You will alphabetize your Works Cited list by first word of each entry (ignoring "a," "an," and "the"). Don't know how to format a hanging indent? Follow these directions.
Internal Citations
(AKA in-text documentation, parenthetical references,
or internal documentation)
In the text of your paper you acknowledge the sources you used with a brief internal citation (also called parenthetical reference) that refers to an alphabetical Works Cited list at the end of the paper. The brief citation should include just enough information for a reader to find the full citation in the list as well as a page number, if appropriate. For example, if you are paraphrasing or directly citing a quote found on page 35 of The Two Koreas by Jennifer Peloso, the brief citation might be (Peloso 35); or you might include a signal phrase: As Peloso writes... (35).
See "Citing Evidence from the Text: In-Text Documentation" for more information.
You may also use EasyBib to manage your citations.
