Carolina Beach Elementary School now has a Chess Club as an extra curricular activity!
This year, as a club, the activity is not for beginners.
All participating students must have some experience playing Chess.
(Students without some experience may use resources such as the book Chess, by Dana Meachen Rau (call number 794.1) found in our CBES library to gain a basic understanding of the game.)
To qualify, students will take a brief test to identify the basics of the game.
Signed permission slips are then required for students who demonstrate a basic understanding and wish to participate.
On Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:30 to 8:00 A.M. chess club students may come to Room 306. Students must act responsibly by being prepared for class and ready to join their class quickly, ready to participate in the rest of their school day.
Mr. Dodd is the teacher adviser and will monitor the activity. If concerns develop with any student, the homeroom teacher and parent will be notified before the student can return to chess. This club is a privilege!
