What time does school start/end?
School begins at 7:45 am and ends at 2:30. The children may come into the classroom at 7:15 am. I recommend them getting there between 7:30 and 7:40 am in order to get morning work completed before the announcements come on at 7:45. Students are marked as tardy if arriving after 7:45. If your child is going to eat breakfast, and is a car rider, please be sure they are here by 7:20 am in order to have enough time to eat.
What do I do if we arrive late to school?
Please come into the office to sign your child in if you arrive after 7:45 am. Your child must have a Tardy slip from the office to be admitted to class.
What do I do if I have a transportation change?
Please email or send a note in your child's daily folder if there are ANY transportation changes. Do NOT leave any transportation changes on my voice mail as I may not get them in time. If you have a last minute change, you can call the office before 1:30 pm. The office will call the room at the end of the day with any changes to transportation.
Can I come eat lunch with my child? Due to Covid restrictions, we will be eating lunch in our classroom this year. Unfortunately, due to distancing, parents will be unable to come into the classroom & have lunch with their child.
Can I bring a special lunch for my child?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your child lunch. Lunches will be left in the office & I will be notified.
Can I bring a snack on my child's birthday?
Yes, we prefer that it is simple to serve and eat. For example, cookies or cupcakes instead of a sheet cake. Please keep in mind that ALL food items sent to school must be store bought. It is also important to send napkins/plates too. Please let me know ahead of time if you plan on sending in items to celebrate your child's special day. We will celebrate all birthdays at the end of our lunch time.
How can I contact you?
My phone number at school is (910)790-5067 ext. 74039. This rings to my voice mail during school hours. I will check it and return your call when I can, usually after the students leave in the afternoon. You may also send notes in your child's folder and I will respond to them as soon as possible. The best way to contact me, and get a quick reply, is through e-mail: kirbe.northam@nhcs.net
What can I do to help my child at home?
The most important thing you can do to help your child this year is to stay involved with his/her school work. Help your child complete his/her homework everyday. Some activities will require some written work, others will be to practice a skill taught in school or to work on station work not completed in class. The other thing you should do is encourage your child to read daily.
