Please note that there is an afterschool/weekend requirement for this course!
Highlights:
Course Description: This course is designed to teach students to understand and demonstrate a working knowledge of how the various areas of technical theatre operate and support performances. After extensive research, students will create props and costumes and work with makeup, lights, and sound using available resources. Students will also gain experience in generating publicity for productions. Attendance at after-school rehearsals and all performances is required.
Required Supplies:
Your school provided laptop, fully charged, every day
Folder/notebook
Pen and pencil, you may want your own colored pencils, as well
Appropriate work clothes for class—when we are working in the theatre, no skirts, heels, flip-flops or backless shoes will be allowed. If you are dressed inappropriately you will not be able to participate. This is a safety issue. I will try to let you know at least a day in advance when we will be working in the theatre, painting, etc. but it’s not a bad idea to bring and leave work clothes and shoes in the drama room so you know you always have them.
Plain black shirt (long sleeved unless you are on fly), pants, socks and closed-toe shoes (no high-heels or platforms!) for shows
We will be using the standardized school grading system:
Practice 40%--Graded activities to teach curriculum standards during the learning process. Includes research, design, painting, building, etc.
Performance 60%--Student’s demonstration of mastery of curriculum standards
This will then be further broken down into:
Projects—40% Includes crew assignments, group assignments and presentations
Written Work—20%
General Pacing Guide:
Weeks 1-2—Tour MEAC and familiarize with equipment and safety procedures
Weeks 3-13—Planning, designing, building and producing festival and fall plays
Weeks 14-18—Independent play production project
*This is only a rough outline and subject to change as new needs and requests arise.
Course Requirements—MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!
You are required to work ONE of the following. If you are performing in one, or both, of these events we will assign your tasks accordingly. Because this is a fairly small class, I will take volunteers to work both.

Minnie Evans Festival—November 15th
**Possibly the Murray Fall Play--November 17th-23rd (Performances are the 21st-23rd)
